Welcome to Marina di Camerota
Marina di Camerota is the most famous district of the municipality of Camerota, (an ancient village perched on Mount Bulgheria) and represents its ancient seaport. The other districts of Camerota are Licusati and Lentiscosa. Today, Marina di Camerota has become one of the most renowned and sought-after destinations for beach tourism in Cilento, initially because it borders the nearby Palinuro, sharing the vast Mingardo beach, and later for its beautiful coastline. The wide sandy or rocky beaches with their characteristic small coves have received proper recognition and appreciation from an increasing number of bathers who, in addition to the beaches and the beauty of the places, appreciate the clarity of the sea waters.
Once considered the poorer sister of Capo Palinuro, today Marina di Camerota is a small village that offers tourists opportunities for fun and leisure, natural beauty, and reasonable costs compared to its renowned neighbor.
One of the most interesting scenic spots in Camerota is undoubtedly Punta degli Infreschi, an unspoiled place where bathers can rediscover the ancient aspect of this coast, appearing as our ancestors saw it.
This stretch of the Cilento coast has had admirers since prehistory (540,000 years before Christ) as reminded by the remains of Homo Camerotensis found in the caves overlooking Lentiscelle beach. This human species was distinguished from other Neanderthals by its more prominent chin.
Location
The geographical location of Marina di Camerota offers tourists numerous opportunities for excursions and guided tours to all the sites of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, of which it is a part. Of significant interest are the archaeological remains of two major cities of Magna Graecia, namely Velia, home to the famous Eleatic school, which is 33 km away, and Paestum with its beautifully preserved temples, 77 km away. The magnificent excavations of Pompeii are 191 km away. Salerno, the provincial capital, is 154 km away. Public transportation from this city leads to Amalfi, the queen of the Amalfi Coast, located 167 km from Marina di Camerota, and ferries to Capri. Worth visiting are the towns along the coast, in particular: Pisciotta (about 52 km away) which dominates the coastline from atop a hill, Agropoli with its remnants of the past and the beautiful Trentova bay (about 71 km away), Acciaroli (about 78 km away), a prestigious seaside resort, and finally Sapri (about 35 km away), the capital of the Gulf of Policastro. Camerota and Its Districts
Marina di Camerota is one of the districts of Camerota, a municipality located in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano Park. In addition to Marina di Camerota, Camerota includes two other charming districts: Lentiscosa and Licusati. Lentiscosa is a picturesque village situated in the Cilento hinterland hills. This ancient village still retains its rustic charm, with its cobblestone streets and stone houses climbing the hillside slopes. Lentiscosa is an ideal place for those who want a break from the hectic life and wish to immerse themselves in the peaceful and authentic atmosphere of Cilento. Licusati, on the other hand, is another district of Camerota, offering panoramic views of the Cilento coast and the Gulf of Policastro. The narrow streets and crowded squares of this ancient village are a delight to explore on foot, and you can also visit the Church of San Severino, a 16th-century architectural gem. These districts, along with Marina di Camerota, make up the municipality of Camerota, each with its unique charm and characteristics, inviting visitors to discover the true essence of this wonderful region in southern Italy.
